People connect over sharing memories together and telling stories to each other. But what if this is no longer possible? Imagine a visit to your parents without a conversation. How do you connect then? Keeping these questions and struggles in mind, DirigeerBlad was created – an open-play game for elderly with dementia, their family and caretakers. The design enhances interaction between its users by using lights and music, with its main promise being: making you smile more. The elderly can interact with the lights, which will influence the music they have chosen themselves. The better the lights are followed and touched, the louder the music becomes and vice versa. DirigeerBlad allows for competition, playing together and most of all, having fun. Instead of focusing on the negative, we hoped to help the elderly to smile more, while enjoying their favourite music!
